Cal Thompson is a native of Central Florida and is a current student at the University of Central Florida studying Finance. Thompson came to the Flight during the 2012 season by way of UCF’s DeVos Sports Management School, a key partner of the Flight’s internship program. A Game Day intern for the 2012 season, Thompson used his sports management skills and work ethic to prove his value and earn a permanent place with the team.
With the vacancy left by the departure of former General Manager Rabon Smith, Thompson was offered and accepted the position. “I’m humbled and thrilled to be the new General Manager of the Florida Flight,” said Thompson. “The mission and vision of the Flight is invigorating. I’m excited to build upon what has already been established and transition things to the next level!”
“It’s always sad to see a member of this team move on, but that’s what we are about – investment and development,” said Flight Owner Mark King. “But Cal is multitalented. He brings a lot of value, and I’m confident in his ability to pick up where Rabon left off and propel this franchise to even greater heights!
Originally from DeLand, Florda, Thompson grew up playing basketball. Due to numerous knee injuries he was unable to continue in his dream of playing basketball at a high level. He now intends to continue to pursue opportunities in the sports business industry. Thompson is also an employee of Rogers Benefit Group and coaches basketball at Orangewood Christian School in Maitland, Florida.
