FLORIDA FLIGHT RELEASE MIKE DEAN

(Orlando, FL) – The Florida Flight have officially released high- profile recruit Mike Dean.

Dean’s hometown of Rome, GA was ravaged by a shocking streak of tornadoes that wreaked havoc on seven states stretching from Alabama to Virginia on April 27, 2011. Upon receiving further damage details, Dean requested his release in order to return to Georgia and help his two children, his fiancé and the rest of his family with the recovery and rebuilding process.

“We’ll always be a family-first franchise,” said Mark King, Majority Owner, President and Head Coach of the Flight. Dean was signed to play alongside veteran guard Ernest Jones to provide much-needed leadership to a young Flight squad that boasts seven rookies this season. Jones and Dean each have more than seven years of professional basketball experience.

“I was looking forward to hooking back up with Mark and playing with the Flight this season,” said Dean. “I went through a tough training camp, and I was ready to get the second half of my career heading in the right direction. Right now, however, I have to take care of my family.”

Dean's departure leaves a leadership gap in the roster, but King is not overly concerned. “Most coaches recruit greatness. Real coaches create greatness!” explained King. “With Dean, I believe we were a favorite to compete for a CBL championship this season. Without him, we’ll float under the radar a little more, which isn’t necessarily a bad place to be when you have a young team like ours.”

The Flight dropped their season opener to the Gainesville Galaxy in Gainesville last Saturday. Their next game is their home opener against the Heartland Prowl on Saturday, May 14, at Avalon Middle School in the Avalon Park community of Orlando.

Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30pm. Tickets are $10 at the door, and can also be purchased online by visiting www.flighthoops.com or visiting www.floridaflight.ticketleap.com directly. Season tickets are also available for $55 ($6.88/game).
