For immediate release
The Florida Flight staff left the 2010 World Basketball Association Exposure League open tryout with
three players: Jacob Carver, Ryen Phipps, and Tyler Simms.
The Flight selected Carver and Phipps in the first and second round respectively. Simms, selected by
the Marietta Storm in the second round, was acquired via a trade.
Carver, a 5'11" guard who last played at University Christian School in Jacksonville, Florida, sat out
the first day of the camp with an injured ankle, but impressed on day two.
"Jacob was drawing charges, passing the ball well, and taking smart shots," said Mark King,
Co-founder and President of the Flight. "A lot of players were going through the motions. Jacob had
an extra bounce in his step."
Simms, a 6'3" guard and close friend of Carver, showed off his consistent shooting range and
basketball IQ.
Phipps, a guard local to the Orlando area, traveled all the way to Lawrenceville, Georgia hoping to
impress the Flight staff enough to play in his home town.
"Ryen has been e-mailing me for about a month now," said King. "He reminded me of myself. He's
undersized, passionate about basketball, and says he's willing to do what it takes to improve.
Somebody gave me a shot, and I wanted to extend the same gratitude to Ryen. What he does with it is
up to him."
Carver, Phipps and Simms will take part in the upcoming Florida Flight Open Tryout on April 17,
2010 at the Kissimmee Civic Center, where they will compete against other hopefuls also vying for an
active roster spot with the 2010 expansion Flight.
